Transport Malta ramps up its road enforcement efforts in 2023 TRANSPORT Malta has ramped up its road enforcement efforts in 2023, as it relentlessly worked to- wards ensuring safer roads and upholding traffic regulations. The Authority's commitment to maintaining order on the roads is evident in the remarkable sta- tistics achieved throughout the year. During 2023, the Authority has issued a total of 32,801 contra- ventions, sending a strong mes- sage against violations of traffic laws. Approximately 6,000 ad- ministrative fines were imposed on offenders, underlining the Authority's dedication to holding accountable those who compro- mise road safety. In an effort to combat illegal and dangerous practices, the Au- thority confiscated a substantial number of vehicles, including 570 cars, 376 escooters, and 115 number plates. These actions serve as a deterrent and reinforce the importance of adhering to traffic regulations. Collaboration was key to the Authority's success, as a num- ber of roadside inspections were conducted, some conducted in collaboration with the Malta Police Force, Department for Industrial and Employment Re- lations (DIER), and the European Labour Authority (ELA). This cooperative approach allowed for a comprehensive examination of road users' compliance with regulations and further strength- ened the impact of enforcement efforts. A notable proactive initiative was taken by the Authority be- fore the commencement of the scholastic year. The aim was to ensure smooth traffic flow and to offer support to motorists facing breakdowns on the roads. Trans- port Malta provided a free tow- truck service, showcasing the Authority's commitment to both preventive measures and rapid response to unforeseen incidents. The Chief Executive Officer of Transport Malta, Mr. Jonathan Borg, has expressed his deep ap- preciation for the remarkable ac- complishments of the Authority in creating safer roads for all. His acknowledgment of the Authori- ty's tireless efforts and unwaver- ing commitment to ensuring se- cure roads and upholding traffic regulations is truly inspiring. Mr. Borg's gratitude extends to the hardworking Enforcement Of- ficers, whose tireless dedication and pivotal role in attaining these remarkable results deserve rec- ognition. Transport Malta's steadfast re- solve to work diligently and im- plement strategic measures to enhance road safety and foster a culture of compliance among road users is a shining exam- ple for all. The results stand as a firm testament to the Authority's unwavering commitment to cre- ating a safe and secure environ- ment on the roads, inspiring us all towards a brighter and safer future.
