Estimates of the Publishing En- tities Survey indicate that in 2022, the number of new titles published increased by 5.2 per cent compared to the previous year (Table 1). On their part, in 2022 the number of new ISBNs issued to publishing entities increased by 7.2 per cent reaching 566. 81.7 per cent of the new ISBNs in 2022 were issued to large pub- lishing entities, which in the survey are classified as publishing entities with 11 or more new ISBNs. English and Maltese were the lan- guages in which most books were published, with 52.7 per cent of publishers publishing titles in each of these languages. Survey results indicated that, in 2022, 78.2 per cent of publishers collaborated with three or less edi- tors, with 32.7 per cent of publish- ers operating without engaging any editors. Regarding the number of team members engaged, survey findings showed that 63.6 per cent of pub- lishers worked with production team members. From these, 10.9 per cent exclu- sively collaborated with freelance team members, 23.6 per cent had in-house team members and 29.1 per cent utilized a combination of both types of team members. Consistent with the preceding two years in this time series, most publishers have continued to part- ner with three or fewer authors, with 60.0 percent of them having engaged three or fewer authors. Compared to the previous year, an increase of 31.2 per cent was registered in the number of print- ed books sold, reaching a total of 548 titles, of which 415 for trade publishing and 133 for educational publishing. In regard to the sales channels used, the "online" channel was the most used, with a total of 437 ti- tles sold through this channel in 2022 for both trade and education- al publishing titles. Price increas- es were registered in the con- sumer goods (5.8 per cent) and capital goods (3.7 per cent). Intermediate goods declined by 4.6 per cent. No price change occurred in the energy sector. Industrial producer prices for the domestic market increased by 0.7 per cent. Price rises were recorded in the consumer goods (3.8 per cent) and in the capital goods (2.6 per cent). On the other hand, the inter- mediate goods dropped by 3.0 per cent. The prices of goods destined to the euro area rose by 2.7 per cent while those destined to the non-euro area dropped by 1.3 per cent. Monthly comparison During December 2023, the industrial producer price in- dex decreased by 0.7 per cent when compared to November 2023. Intermediate goods dropped by 1.3 per cent while capital goods decreased by 0.8 per cent. There were no price changes in the energy and consumer goods sectors. The domestic market price fell by 0.1 per cent due to a decrease of 0.2 per cent in the intermediate goods. No price changes were reg- istered in the other industrial groupings. Prices in the non-domestic markets decreased by 1.0 per cent. The prices of goods des- tined to the non-euro area and those destined to the euro area dropped by 1.4 per cent and 0.4 per cent, respectively.
