10 NEWS 22.2.2024 FOR the sixth year running, Toyota has been confirmed as Malta's best-selling automotive brand in 2023, securing its standing in the market and reaffirming its status as the preferred choice among the community of local drivers. With a winning combination of qual- ity, safety and innovation, Toyota has not only improved its market share, but also registered a remarkable year-on- year increase of 22% in its sales. Toyota Malta's reputation is key to retaining its existing customer base and attracting new ones seeking reliability and peace of mind. Debono Group's Director of Sales Gra- ziella Van Coillie commented: "We are very proud of this result, and we take the trust placed in us very seriously. While this serves as a source of motivation and validation of our commitment to excellence, we remain dedicated to up- holding the standards that have earned us this trust. We extend our gratitude to our customers for choosing Toyota." Among the Toyota vehicles sold in Malta in 2023, the models Toyota Aygo X, Toyota Yaris and Toyota Yaris Cross emerged as clear favourites, reflecting their appealing design and exceptional efficiency thanks to Toyota's innovative Hybrid EV platforms. Meanwhile, Toyota also registered its best sales performance yet in Europe, as the second best-selling passenger car brand in Europe for a third year running and the best-selling automaker at global level for the fourth year in a row. Toyota was first introduced to the Maltese Islands and the European con- tinent in 1960 when Michael Debono became its first distributor in Europe. Toyota the preferred choice of Maltese drivers for sixth year running CENTRAL Bank Governor Professor Edward Scicluna togeth- er with the Governors of the central banks of Croatia, Portu- gal, Slovenia, and Spain, as well as senior representatives of the OECD and the IMF spoke at a conference entitled, "Stay the Course in Turbulent Times: Old and New Challenges for Cen- tral Banks", held on February 14 in Split, Croatia. e conference focused on addressing critical economic issues and fostering collaboration among central banks in the region. e participants delved into challenges such as the mon- etary policy actions to fight against elevated and persistent inflation, the need for effective communication strategies amid complex economic environments, the management of financial risks associated with climate change and the imperative of promoting women's economic participation and financial inclusion. e 2024 Conference of Mediterranean Central Banks has been co-organised by the Bank of Spain, the Croatian National Bank, the OECD, the Union for the Mediterrane- an, and the IEMed. Central Bank governor addresses a Mediterranean conference in Split THE Super Yacht Industry Network Malta (SYINM) has announced the appointment of new council members. Outgoing president Ken- neth Camilleri passed on the baton to Karl Naudi following the Network's Annual Gen- eral Meeting held on 6 Feb- ruary 2024 whereby the new council was elected. The incoming council is made up of Karl Naudi as President, Angelique Abe- la as Vice President, Jessica Galea as Secretary, Pauline Micallef as Treasurer, Paul D. Cardona as Technical affairs. The council members have years of experience in the Yachting Industry and have in their personal capacity been involved for a number of years supporting the in- dustry. Now in its 17th year since its inception being the longest standing association in the yachting industry in Malta, SYINM plays a key role with- in the super yacht industry. Its relevance in 2024 coin- cides with Malta's project to enhance the niche superyacht industry. Over the years Malta has established itself as Europe's leading maritime flag. A flag which continues to grow and remain sustainable thanks to the stakeholders and opera- tors in the industry. Karl Naudi stressed that the network's aim is "to build on our maritime legacy by consolidating our existing work and mapping out a sol- id support system for all the stakeholders in the industry. We recognise the distinctive potential Malta holds as a su- peryacht hub and we plan to embrace the opportunity to maximise this potential."
