15 CULTURE maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 28 FEBRUARY 2024 THE four winning photographs in the Din l-Art Ħelwa and Bank of Valletta photography competition were announced this week. The winning photographs will now be put on display in the Maj- jistral Park's Visitors' Centre as well as on the Bank's social media channels. The photographic competition – the 7th organized by Din l-Art Ħelwa – was the result of the two organisations' belief in the impor- tance of awareness about the beau- ty of the natural environment. The competition was open for children between 10 and 16 years, and all photos had to be taken at Majjistral Park. DLĦ is part of the Heritage Parks Federation man- agement which runs the Park. The winners are: Fauna First Place: Ava Vozarova Second Place: Emily Caselli Flora First Place: Morena Coco Second Place: Alexander Bugeja A prize of €300 was awarded to each of the winning entries and €200 for the second-placed en- trants. The judging panel was composed of Din l-Art Ħelwa and Bank of Valletta members. DLĦ Education Officer Stanley Farrugia Randon said DLĦ's Her- itage and Environment Protection Committee is constantly fighting against inappropriate develop- ment. "It is also important to explain why we need to protect the en- vironment and we firmly believe that the generations of the future need to be aware of the beauty of our natural environment," he said. "This positive approach is the best way to build up determina- tion to save it." Charles Azzopardi, head of BOV's CSR programme, said that through initiatives such as this, the bank continues expanding its responsibility towards the current and future generations. "Our natural environment is constantly at risk, so the bank is constantly trying to raise aware- ness and educate towards a more sustainable future," he said. "This photographic competition is a prime example of how BOV ensures that the community in which it operates continues grow- ing through the education of our younger generations."
