maltatoday | SUNDAY • 31 MARCH 2024 2 MUSIC Local band releases first- ever music video 'Happier Now' BENNIE Blue's new single, 'Happier Now,' and the band's first-ever music video have just been released. Directed by Karl Andrew Mi- callef, the video explores a cou- ple's key moments at a critical point in their relationship. The video, starring Luke Hess and Mia Vickery, was shot in one location. Friends of the band filled in as extras and pitched in as the production team. "We faced long cold nights to wrap up the shoot in two nights, and thanks to everyone, we pulled it off and had fun in the process," Micallef said. "This video is a testament to collaboration. Without the help of many generous people, this film would never have been completed," he said. The band's members appear in the video in small cameos. The band's singer, Hadrien Meilleur, for example, plays a waiter. On the song, Meilleur said: "Lyrically, the song is familiar terrain for us. It explores the anxiety that comes with love and attraction". "The song asks an age-old question: what if they don't like me back?". Musically Happier Now ex- plores reggaeton beats while maintaining an ambience that is synonymous with the band's ear- lier work, he said. Happier Now is Bennie Blues' first song after a hiatus of two years following the release of their debut EP, Santa Rita. Background Info: Bennie Blue is a Maltese- alt- rock band. Its first single, 'Engagement Party,' was released in 2020, and the band's first 8-song EP was re- leased in 2022. Bennie Blue will be playing at Rock the South on May 3.
