The Malta Producers' Associa- tion is launching its profession- al development training event, Future Visions, from the 23rd – 27th April, catering to audio- visual producers, filmmakers, as well as law and business profes- sionals working adjacent to the industry. Future Visions launches on Tuesday 23rd April with a key- note speech by John Yorke - for- mer head of Drama at the BBC and Channel4 – whose book Into the Woods is one of the UK's bestselling books on nar- rative structure. Yorke's keynote speech will be followed by a net- working event, bringing togeth- er stakeholders in the field. On Thursday 25th April, a one- day set of workshops on film & TV law will aim to provide an overview on co-production law, within the European audiovis- ual context. Led by Avv. Annal- isa Putorti from Rulli Putortì & Partners Law Firm, it will outline ways of structuring a co-pro- duction, and engage with the treaties and conventions which apply, as well as other bi-lateral co-production treaties. In the afternoon, Avv Purtorti, with the participation of Dr Jeanine Rizzo, will outline the legal tools in the realisation of audiovisual projects. It will provide partic- ipants with information on the chain of rights, copyright and related authors' contracts. The event will also include guid- ance on Creative Europe funding provided by Martina Petrovic, the Creative Europe MEDIA desk representative for Croatia, and Daniela Said, the Maltese ME- DIA desk representative. The programme will close on Saturday 27th April with a screening of the Palestinian film, House in Jerusalem, by Muayad Alayan. It will be accompanied by an introduction by the film's sales agent, Heretic, who will discuss modes of distribution and exhibition for small coun- tries, as well as a Q&A with the writer-director who will outline the strategies he used to interna- tionalise and export the film. Future Visions is the first in- itiative being launched by the new board of the MPA: interdis- ciplinary artist and filmmaker, Charlie Cauchi; the producer of Luzzu, Rebecca Anastasi; the di- rector and producer of Simshar, Rebecca Cremona; cinematogra- pher, Ben Borg Cardona; as well as filmmaker, Ryan Gatt. The MPA was established in 2019 to contribute towards the development, promotion and improvement of the audiovis- ual industry and its resources in Malta. The association aims to safeguard and represent the interests and rights of Malta's audiovisual producers and ser- vice providers, ensuring pro- fessionals in the sector enjoy a competitive and advantageous environment. Future Visions is being sup- ported by the Arts Council Mal- ta through its Programme Sup- port Scheme.
