maltatoday | SUNDAY • 9 JUNE 2024 3 CULTURE Maltese dancer studying at prestigious UK school for performing arts 18-YEAR-OLD Maltese dancer Maya Attard is currently in her final year at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts, where she will be graduating with a Level 6 Trinity Professional Performing Arts Diploma in professional dance in July 2024. Tring Park School for the Per- forming Arts is the UK's lead- ing performing arts and aca- demic school. It offers an exceptional op- portunity to young people who show an outstanding talent for the performing arts, while rec- ognising the benefits of a fine academic education. In October of 2024 Attard will be joining JV2, a profes- sional Development Diploma developed by Jasmin Vardimon Company. The programme, hand picked by Jasmin Vardi- mon MBE, offers young danc- ers a unique opportunity to train as versatile and multi-dis- ciplinary performers, under the guidance of one of the world's leading female choreographers. Attard's experience of train- ing abroad and following her passion of becoming a profes- sional dancer would not have been possible without the help of the Malta Arts Council, who upon my acceptance into Tring Park School of the Performing Arts in 2021, awarded me with an Arts Scholarship, in order to be able to financially support my lifelong dream. Laura Marzadori in concert at Teatru Manoel TEATRU Manoel in collabora- tion with RPL Malta and Calma Management will be organizing Laura Marzadori in Concert on Sunday, 23 June 2024 at 8.30pm at Teatru Manoel, Valletta. The concert's performance will consist Laura Marzadori, Leader of the Teatro alla Scala Orchestra with Eugenio Silvestri on vio- la, and our local talents Francis Camilleri on piano and Bettino Farrugia on piano. The pro- gramme itself will consist Trio dei Birilli di Mozart, J. Brahms Trio op. 40 (viola al posto del corno) and Concert D. Shostak- ovich: 5 Pezzi. Laura Marzadori joined the Te- atrro alla Scala Orchestra as First Violin in 2014, at just 25 years. Before taking up this position she played only as a soloist and as a chamber music violinist, never in an orchestra. However, the commission members with Dan- iel Barenhoim as its president, unanimously elected her as the Concertmaster. In this role she has already worked with some of the greatest conductors in the world: Barenboim, Chailly, Gatti, Harding and Pappano. She began studying the violin a few months before her fourth birthday with Fiorenza Rosi, a teacher of the Suzuki method. At age 10 she studied for one year with Professor Enzo Porta, great violinist and pedagogue, before entering the GB Martini Con- servatory in Bologna from where she graduated magna cum laude in October 2005. Laura also studied until the age of 17 with Marco Fornaciari – for many years violin soloist of the Claudio Scimone ensemble 'I Solisti Veneti'. In 2004 she won the 'Andrea Amati' National Contest for Young Violinists. The chairman of that jury was the famous vi- olinist Salvatore Accardo who took her on to this prestigious international courses at the Stauffer Academy in Cremona and at the Chigianao Academy in Siena where for two consecutive years she was awarded the Hon- our's Diploma granted to the best students. The concert is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Local Councils – Ministry of Tourism – Continental Cars – Green MT – M Vintage – Waterfront Hotel.
