maltatoday | SUNDAY • 9 JUNE 2024 5 ALMANAC Nature Notebook 922. Sardinian Warbler UNLIKE, say, the UK, we're not blessed with many garden birds. So the Sardinian warbler (M. bufula sewda), which regularly makes our gardens its home, is very precious to bird lovers. The bird is easy to love: small, perky, active, smart and with quite an attitude, mak- ing rather free with its scolding chatter! Males and females are easy to tell apart: a black 'balaclava' (as in the photo) indicates a male; females opt for grey. A pair of Sardinians nesting in or near one's garden really liven up the place, especially when they eventually have a bunch of feisty youngsters in tow, as many of them do at this time of year. But it wasn't always like this: a hundred years ago Sardinian warblers were just winter visitors, like robins and starlings. Since then, the species has made Malta very much its year-round home. We're not complaining. Friends of the Earth Malta is holding Nature Camp for Youth! The nature camp will be a space where young people get lifelong expe- riences with each other and nature. A GOOD WEEK Good Week/Bad Week A BAD WEEK Chris Martin's Coldplay shared a new song called Orange in tribute to Luton where the band were headlining BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend. Local fans had hoped that the lyrics to Coldplay's hit single, Yellow, would be changed to the word orange to reflect the colour of the local football club's kit. A Scottish woman who allegedly inspired the character Martha in the hit Netflix drama Baby Reindeer is suing the streamer for defamation, negligence and privacy violations. Fiona Harvey, who says Martha is based on her, argued in a lawsuit filed in a California court on Thursday that Netflix told "brutal lies" about her to over 50 million viewers around the world. Some of the lyrics in the new song referenced Luton Town's relegation from the Premier League this season, with Chris Martin singing: "It's hard to be a football fan here in Luton town. Sometimes you do the best you can but you find you're going down." The lawsuit seeks over $170m (£132m) in damages for Ms Harvey, who claims the Baby Reindeer series falsely depicted her as a convicted criminal who spent time in prison for stalking.
