maltatoday | SUNDAY • 30 JUNE 2024 8 COMMERCIAL MCST receives 'Best Practice in Good Governance Award' IN this year's edition of the Pub- lic Service Awards ceremony, the Malta Council for Science and Technology received the 'Best Practice in Good Govern- ance Award' from among all public administration entities. The award ceremony was held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre under the patronage of Her Excellency the President of Malta, Dr Myriam Spiteri Debono. The adjudication for the choice of the winner of this award was the National Audit Office (NAO), which embarked on an extensive auditing exercise con- ducted on several random sam- ples of the MCST's Research and Innovation public fund adminis- tration, meticulously examining the process for any anomalies or irregularities. Upon completion of this au- dit, the NAO concluded that the processes and documents vetted were not only fully in accord- ance with the principles of good governance, and demonstrated accountability and transparency in administration, but also that the work ethic shown is to be considered as being a 'Best Prac- tice' example in the administra- tion and governance of public monies. Silvio Scerri, CEO of Xjenza Malta, received this prestigious award on behalf of the Insti- tution, and in his acceptance speech, said that this is an offi- cial recognition and acknowl- edgment of the dedication, in- tegrity and honesty daily shown by the Institution's workforce. Scerri said, "I am honored to receive the award for Good Governance on behalf of all the employees who turn up to work daily to diligently manage na- tional public funds in the field of research and innovation, serv- ing the public with unwavering commitment. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all involved in earning Xjenza Malta this prestigious Award." Michelin star chef to lead zero waste cooking workshops CHEF Jonathan Brincat, co-founder of the Michelin star restaurant Noni, will lead two upcoming Foodwise Families zero waste cooking workshops. These workshops, taking place on 6 July and 7 September, are part of a NWAMI Internation- al Malta initiative to combat food waste and build a sense of togetherness and common purpose. The project gives par- ents and children the opportu- nity to explore traditional rec- ipes from Malta and various corners of the world while at the same time highlighting the fact that food waste is the third largest contributor to climate change. The Foodwise Families work- shops, which are supported by APS Bank and The Melita Foundation, are open to chil- dren aged 8 to 14 together with their parents or legal guardi- ans. Both workshops with chef Jonathan Brincat will run from 11am to 1pm and take place at the RMHC Learning Centre in Qawra. In addition to these workshops, the project will culminate in the creation of an engaging Multicultural Zero Waste Cuisine Cookbook for Children, fostering interactive and sustainable culinary explo- ration with information about Maltese and global culinary cu- riosities and traditions as well as practical tips for food shop- ping, food storage and food re- cycling. Maria Gabriele Doublesin, President at NWAMI Interna- tional Malta and the creator of the project explains: "The Food- wise Families initiative has al- ready created a positive impact with our zero waste cooking workshops giving children and their parents and guardians valuable culinary skills which enable them to prepare deli- cious and nutritious meals us- ing a zero waste approach. The fact that a renowned chef like Jonathan Brincat has also de- cided to support this initiative and lead our next two work- shops, is a clear endorsement of the importance we should all attach to avoiding food waste and exploring the food tradi- tions of different people in our communities." Chef Jonathan Brincat, said, "I love taking the essence of Maltese food and re-inventing it with a contemporary twist. Focusing on locally sourced ingredients which are in sea- son also helps to ensure great- er sustainability and less food waste. The Foodwise Families initiative is a great project that can help our communities bet- ter understand how we can all do more to be both creative and sustainable in the kitchen. I am really looking forward to the workshops and to sharing some of my ideas with the fam- ilies who will be joining us." The zero waste cooking work- shops with Jonathen Brincat are free to attend but spaces are limited and available on first come first served basis.
