For much of the film, the German raider Essen (depicted by HMS Manxman) is holed up in the semi-circular Dwejra Bay, behind Fungus Rock on the west coast of Gozo, and there are several scenes set amongst the desolate limestone cliffs above the bay as Able Seaman Brown single-handedly detains the German ship until her pursuers can catch up with her. This newspaper is informed that the pool will be filled in the coming days, and all relat- ed equipment and machinery tested. The Olympic-size pool will be able to host a number of wa- ter-related activities, including national and international wa- terpolo events. The whole complex will cover 5,000sq.m and, at €16 million - up from the €9 million original- ly budgeted for the project - it will be the biggest investment of its kind in Gozo. Facilities will include an Olympic-size pool, as well as other areas dedicated to gym- nastics, basketball, badminton, squash, wall climbing, acro- batics, weightlifting, aerobics, yoga, martial arts and other in- door sports. Other state-of-the-art ameni- ties, including a first-aid room, are also included. The facilities will also be able to be used for therapeutic and recovery pur- poses. The sports complex will serve the adjacent education cam- pus, allowing students to enjoy full use of the sports facilities withough the need to leave the security of the two centres. Gozitan athletes, who today are forced to travel to Malta for training in various fields, are also expected to enjoy the new facilities. Many believe that the new complex will also attract sports tourism - domestic and interna- tional - to the island. Olympic-sized pool to be filled and tested in coming days
