maltatoday | SUNDAY • 22 SEPTEMBER 2024 2 MUSIC Malta and Gozo Concert Tour October 2024 THE Imperial Male Voice Choir takes its name from Imperial College, University of London, where the founder members met in the 1970s. Al- though Imperial is renowned world-wide for its tuition and research in the fields of Sci- ence, Technology and Medi- cine, its students and alumni also have a notable enthusiasm and reputation for music-mak- ing. For almost 50 years IMVC has entertained audiences and been successful in competitions at home and on tours to France, Germany, Ireland, Switzerland, Slovenia and Russia. The eclectic repertoire spans almost 1000 years from plain- chant and sacred through folk- song, classical, opera, musical theatre and popular genres. Our musical director, Deborah Miles- Johnson, and accompa- nist, Brian Parsons, are alumni of the Royal College of Music and both have many years of professional experience in per- forming, directing and teach- ing music. The concerts usually raise money for charity. The choir is very much look- ing forward to visiting Malta and Gozo between 14th and 20th October 2024. Our four planned concerts will focus particularly, but not exclusive- ly, Tuesday 15th October This concert at the University of Malta will focus on secular music, especially male voice arrangements of English folk songs arranged by composers such as Vaughan Williams, Holst and Elgar. The choir will mix things up using American traditional songs and Broad- way musicals or popular hits. Wednesday 16th October In recognition of the opportu- nity to sing in the glorious, in- spiring Basilica of Senglea, we will present an evening of sa- cred music covering more than 500 years from plainchant and Tallis through Schubert, Fauré and African-American spirit- uals to the 21st century Friday 18th October At the Parish Church of s-Sal- vatur in Għasri, Gozo we will again draw on our sacred rep- ertoire but this time we will be hosted by the renowned Gozitan choir Schola Canto- rum Jubilate directed by Ma- rouska Attard. Each choir will sing some of its favourites and we are excited to have the op- portunity to join forces in some powerful, uplifting choral piec- es by composers such as Bruck- ner and Vaughan Williams. Saturday 19th October Our final concert, in Victo- ria, will feature predominantly secular music in English but we are delighted that Marous- ka Attard (soprano) will join Deborah Miles-Johnson (mez- zo-soprano) in duets by Dvorak and Rossini and combine with the choir in the finale. Each concert will be free to enter with a retiring collection for local charities. More information about IM- VC can be found on its web- site: www.imvc.org.uk This concert at the University of Malta will focus on secular music, especially male voice arrangements of English folk songs arranged by composers such as Vaughan Williams, Holst and Elgar The concert on 15 October will be held at Sir Temi Zammitt Hall, University of Malta, Msida.
