10 gozotoday | FRIDAY • 11 OCTOBER 2024 CULTURE FOOD & DRINK Il Trittico set to enchant opera lovers this weekend PEOPLE know Aida. People know Traviata, Tosca, Turan- dot, Trovatore. People know Carmen. And you should be ready to get to know Il Tabarro, Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi. They are three rare master- pieces. And the fact they are rarely staged, makes it all the more important that you do not miss them. So, do not miss this one-time opportunity when on the island of Gozo you shall have the oc- casion to see the three pieces, just as Puccini intended them - on one night, at the Aurora Opera House in Victoria. And while every opera has always started at 7.30pm, IL TRITTICO this year shall start at 7pm. Patrons are invited to arrive at the opera house from 5.30pm onwards. Doors will open at 6.30pm. Theatre volunteers have put together a new 'allestimento' with costumes and set being the result of an artistic collab- oration between Maltese cos- tume designer Luke Azzopardi, choreographer and director Riccardo Buscarini, set design- er Mike Zerafa, and lighting designer Moritz Savan. On the auditory side, Colin Attard is once more responsi- ble for the Aurora Opera Cho- rus together with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra to- gether with the largest ever in- ternational cast comprising no less than 33 different artists. Patrons crossing over to Gozo as footpassengers on the Gozo Channel ferry, can use an ex- clusive Shuttle Bus from Mġarr Terminal to the theatre and back. This service runs after the 5.15pm ferry, i.e. at 5.45pm from Mġarr, and 30 minutes af- ter the end of the opera perfor- mance from the theatre for the next ferry service which should be at midnight. This is a free-of-charge ser- vice but reservations are rec- ommended. During the main break, the Aurora offers the option of an exclusive Vin d'honneur par- ty – a stand-up reception with free flowing wines and canapes in the Victorian drawing room of the Aurora Opera House premises. This allows the comfort of a secluded space that is not crowded and the benefit of a meal that makes one's evening complete. The Vin d'honneur is capped at a maximum of 80 persons. VINI e Capricci in Xewkija has an- nounced its latest signature event, 'Cheers to the Coming Years: A Taste of the Decade Ahead', set to take place on Friday, 25 October, at 7.30pm.
