THIS IS A PAID COLLABORATION maltatoday | SUNDAY • 20 OCTOBER 2024 This week, the Maltese gov- ernment launched the Malta Vision 2050, a plan that will shape the country's future over the next 25 years. The goal is to improve the quality of life for everyone, focusing on important areas like digi- tal innovation, infrastructure, education, healthcare, sustain- ability, and jobs. The plan will guide Malta's development and set specif- ic targets to be reached by 2035, ensuring that progress is made on time. The Public Service will play a key role in both preparing and imple- menting this vision, ensuring the country stays on track to meet its goals. To make sure Malta Vision 2050 is a success, a Steering Committee (SteerCo) was set up. This committee includes top officials, including Princi- pal Permanent Secretary Tony Sultana and the Prime Minis- ter's Head of Secretariat, along with ministers responsible for crucial areas like energy, climate change, transport, health, education, and Gozo. The committee will be chaired by Minister for the Econo- my, Enterprise, and Strategic Projects, Hon. Silvio Schembri, and will also involve interna- tionally recognized experts to provide guidance. At the launch of this Vision, Tony Sultana emphasized the important role of the Public Service, saying it is not just there to manage daily tasks but to lead the transformation of the country. He highlighted the need for further digital transformation, making servic- es more efficient and reducing bureaucracy. "We must continue embracing new technologies to create a Public Service that serves a modern society," Sultana said. He added that while big pro- gress has already been made, there is more to be done to meet the demands of Malta Vision 2050. A key part of the Malta Vision 2050 plan is ensuring that everything is done transpar- ently and with accountability. The public will be able to track the government's progress to- ward the goals through clear milestones set for 2035 and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), allowing everyone to see how the plan is unfolding. Head of Public Service Tony Sultana also emphasized that these milestones help ensure the vision stays on course, and if changes are needed along the way, they can be made. Sultana also stressed the im- portance of working together to achieve Malta Vision 2050. He called on all sectors, both public and private, to collabo- rate to build a stronger, more inclusive Malta. "Together, we can build a better Malta for current and future generations," he said, urging everyone to be innova- tive, transparent, and collab- orative as the country moves forward. The Malta Vision 2050 is a bold and exciting plan that will transform the country's econ- omy, environment, and socie- ty. The future looks bright for Malta as it embraces change and aims for a better quality of life for all.
