The Government works to actively encourage different business sectors in their ecological transition, to- wards a greener, decarbonised future. The Ministry for the Envi- ronment, Energy and the Re- generation of the Grand Har- bour, in collaboration with the Regulator for Energy and Wa- ter Services (REWS) recently launched another important scheme to help private busi- nesses invest in the develop- ment of large renewable ener- gy projects, such as solar farms and wind turbines. Through this scheme, benefit from a public funding estimat- ed at €82.78M over a period of twenty years. This investment will, in turn, translate into the creation of more green jobs, and complements the islands' vision for a decarbonised econ- omy by 2050. The scheme consists of four calls for the allocation of finan- cial aid for electricity produced from new renewable energy installations with electricity generation capacities ranging from 40kW up to less than 200kW and from 200kW up to less than 1000kW. Each of these calls consists of two sep- arate Invitations to Bid (ITB), one ITB for each capacity cate- gory running concurrently. The Ministry for the Envi- ronment, Energy and Regener- ation for the Grand Harbour, this year also relaunched the invitation to bid for the devel- opment of renewable energy systems larger than one meg- awatt (MW). South Africans in Malta celebrate Heritage Day ON September 29th, 2024, South Africans living in Malta came together to celebrate Her- itage Day, also known as Braai Day. The event, sponsored by Frank Salt Real Estate, brought together around 120 attendees for a vibrant afternoon of food, stories, and community, as they celebrated their heritage while embracing life in their adopted home. This annual gathering offers a chance for the South African community in Malta to connect, share their experiences, and re- flect on both the challenges and successes of settling into life in Europe. Event organizer, Merle Whale, who has lived in Malta for many years, remarked, "Her- itage Day is a reminder of the rich diversity of our rainbow na- tion and the traditions that unite us, no matter where we are." Many attendees expressed their gratitude for the warm hospi- tality they've received from the Maltese people, alongside the island's safe environment and pleasant climate, which have made Malta feel like home.
