A draft bill reforming Malta's drug court laws has
been presented by the government in parliament,
but despite the new bill making no changes to the
amount of drugs one can carry, the Nationalist
Party has said that it will vote against the bill.
In a media briefing on Tuesday, justice minister
Jonathan Attard said that the drug quantities that
determine whether a case moves to the drugs court
will remain unchanged.

VUK Milic, a 22-year-old Serbian na-
tional, has been charged with the mur-
der of his cellmate, Jesmond Gatt, at the
Forensic Unit in Mount Carmel Hospi-
tal.
Before Magistrate Nadine Lia, the ac-
cused stated that he lived in Msida and
is unemployed. He pleaded not guilty.
The victim had died after succumbing
to head injuries, as he was found in a
pool of blood in the forensic ward. Gatt
had a long criminal record and was re-
cently released from prison after serving
a four-year jail term, according to court
records. His initial bail request on the
charge of arson had been denied, lead-
ing to his detention at the forensic ward.
The prosecution said that the accused
was being held in Mount Carmel Hos-
pital after being charged with theft, and
it was there that he spoke to an official
about his involvement in a murder last
summer.
