75% of Maltese
fear relocation due
to climate change
Robert Abela:
'18-year-old
local plans
are outdated'
MALTA may currently be attracting
thousands of migrants, but many Mal-
tese are concerned they will eventually
have to move elsewhere as their country
becomes too hot due to climate change.
A new survey from the European In-
vestment Bank (EIB) reveals that 75%
of Maltese respondents believe they will
eventually need to relocate to a cooler
region or country to avoid rising tem-
peratures, extreme heat, and other cli-
mate-related events.
This figure is significantly higher than
the EU average of 28%. The findings,
based on a survey of 500 Maltese cit-
izens conducted in August 2024, sug-
gests that the Maltese are among the
most concerned on climate change in
European Union.

MALTA'S local plans are outdated, Prime Min-
ister Robert Abela told developers on Tuesday,
admitting that it might be time for them to be
revised.
"If you ask me whether the local plans from 18
years ago address today's reality, I would say they
don't," Abela said whilst speaking at a KPMG
conference on the property market.
