7 gozotoday | FRIDAY • 6 DECEMBER 2024 NEWS DURING a moving ceremony at the European Parlia- ment in Brussels, the Mayor of the City of Bethlehem Anton Salman presented the Nativity Crib to the Presi- dent of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola. In the presence of the Ambassador of Palestine for the European Union Amal Jadou, the President of the Eu- ropean Parliament Roberta Metsola thanked the City of Bethlehem for this gesture and donation and described the crib as a symbol of hope and peace. The Ambassador thanked President Metsola – whom she described as a friend, partner, and advocate for peace and justice – for accepting the crib from Bethlehem. Am- bassador Jadou said that President Metsola's and Parlia- ment's actions mean a lot. "It is appreciated by the Pal- estinian people, who look up to the European Union as a partner that promotes the causes of peace, justice and freedom." President Metsola said that it is only together that we can resolve the conflicts of today and meet the challenges of tomorrow. The Nativity Crib donated by the City of Bethlehem is one of the current initiatives organised at the Europe- an Parliament during this Christmas season. This week, President Metsola visited Maltese cribs exhibited at the European Parliament. Whilst thanking the artists for their outstanding work, she said that these Maltese cribs cele- brate the very best craftsmanship and creativity that Mal- ta and Gozo have to offer. President Metsola has also inaugurated a belén – the Spanish Nativity Scene – and an Austrian Christmas Tree at the European Parliament. The perfor- mance explored both ancient and modern Christmas tradi- tions, celebrating what is often regarded as the most wonder- ful time of the year. Speaking during the launch, Minister for Gozo Clint Camill- eri highlighted the cultural significance of the program, saying that the Christmas fes- tivities mark the conclusion of an eventful year but also the beginning of another year of intensive efforts. "Our cul- tural calendar is increasingly appreciated and celebrated by many, motivating us to deliver even more high-quality events sought after throughout the year," Camilleri added. The festive program features a wide range of activities, in- cluding the Christmas Parade, set to take place on December 21, 2024, along Republic Street in Victoria. On December 22, 2024, Villa Rundle Gardens in Victoria will host Dinja tat- Tfal, a special event for chil- dren. From December 1 to 22, visitors can enjoy a Christmas Market in the same gardens, which will also be beautifully illuminated from December 1, 2024, to January 6, 2025, as part of the Villa Rundle Illumi- nated Gardens display. One of the most cherished traditions, Betlehem f'Għajn- sielem, the live nativity village, will open on December 15 and remain a highlight throughout the Christmas season. The festivities will culmi- nate on New Year's Eve with a grand concert at Independence Square in Rabat, featuring per- formances by local bands and DJs, including The Travellers, Ryan Spiteri, Jolene Samhan, and international guest artist Sonique.
