8 gozotoday | FRIDAY • 27 DECEMBER 2024 FOOD Ir-Rabat (Victoria) is the capital city of the island of Gozo. The name Victoria was given to the town in 1887 in honour of the famous British Queen's Golden Jubilee. At the same time, the town was raised to the status of a city becoming officially known as Citta' ir-Rabat (Victoria). Ir-Rabat (Victoria) embraces both the Citadel, the ancient fortified city at the centre of the Island, and the surrounding town old Rabat (meaning suburb in Arabic and Archaic Maltese) and its modern additions. Two main feasts are celebrated in ir-Rabat (Victoria): St. George's during the week preceding the third Sunday of July, and the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady during the week preceding August 15th. In Triq ir- Repubblika (Republic Street), ir-Rabat (Victoria)'s main street, there are all kinds of shops, a couple of shopping arcades, pharmacies, banks, the Police Headquarters, and the Bishop's Chancery, as well as La Stella and Leone Band Clubs in their respective homes, the Astra and Aurora opera theatres. Did you know? IN the last event for 2024, hap- pening today at Il-Ħaġar Museum, Gozitan artist and art educator Victor Agius will be leading two hands-on workshops for children and young students. These workshops will offer an en- gaging dialogue with Il-Ħaġar Mu- seum's current landmark temporary exhibition, The Annunciation: The Itinerary of Hope through Iconoog- raphy, coordinated by Valerio Bal- lotta of GBK Malta Ltd. The first workshop, for children aged 6-8, will start at 11:00, while the second, aimed at students aged 9-12, takes place from 13:00 to 14:30. Participants will be guided through a collection of artworks by renowned European masters, including Albrecht Dürer, Lucas Cranach, Maarten van Heemskerck, and Federico Barocci, spanning the Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque periods, that are on temporary dis- play at II-Ħaġar. Children and students will then be encouraged to interpret these works in their sketchbooks. These workshops offer a creative explora- tion of art history, colour, and sto- rytelling.
