7 gozotoday | FRIDAY • 3 JANUARY 2025 NEWS Clint Camileri is Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri AS Minister for Gozo and Planning, my vision for 2025 is rooted in creating a sustainable and prosperous future for Gozo and its residents. This includes enhancing Gozo's infra- structure and services while preserving its unique character and natural beau- ty. My aim is to ensure that Gozo contin- ues to thrive as a peaceful haven that offers both modern amenities for its residents and unforgettable experienc- es for its visitors. In this way, we can secure a future where progress and tra- dition work hand in hand. Tourism remains a cornerstone of Gozo's economy, and in 2025, I hope to see Gozo firmly established as a pre- mier destination for sustainable and cultural tourism. By promoting our rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and authentic local experiences, we can continue to attract visitors who value quality over quantity. Investments in eco-tour- ism, improved infrastructure, and en- hanced cultural events will help ensure that tourism benefits our economy while respecting our island's identity and environment. In 2025, I also look forward to seeing major infrastructure projects come to fruition, such as the Gozo Sports and Aquatic Pavilion. This state-of-the-art facility will pro- vide a significant boost to sports and recreational opportunities on the is- land, encouraging a healthy lifestyle while serving as a venue for regional and international events. Ongoing road infrastructure improve- ments will also enhance safety and ac- cessibility, ensuring that these devel- opments benefit residents and visitors alike. These projects represent our commit- ment to modernizing Gozo while meet- ing the evolving needs of the commu- nity. One of the key projects I hope to see progress significantly by 2025 is the de- velopment of the Gozo airfield. This infrastructure will significantly enhance connectivity between Gozo and Malta, making travel more efficient for residents and tourists alike. The airfield will also boost Gozo's economy by facilitating business travel and opening new avenues for high-val- ue tourism. Importantly, this project will be de- veloped with a focus on sustainability, ensuring that it complements Gozo's natural environment and supports our long-term vision for the island. I hope this year Gozo will continue making meaningful strides toward inte- grating sustainability across all sectors, including tourism. By adopting renewable energy solu- tions, expanding eco-friendly trans- port, and implementing responsible waste management systems, we can enhance the appeal of Gozo as a desti- nation that values environmental stew- ardship. These efforts will not only protect our natural resources but also align with the expectations of environmentally conscious travellers seeking meaning- ful and sustainable experiences. My ultimate hope for 2025 is to see a Gozo that thrives as a vibrant and in- clusive community, offering opportu- nities for residents and unforgettable memories for visitors. By fostering partnerships across sec- tors and prioritizing the needs of both locals and tourists, we can ensure that Gozo's growth is both inclusive and sustainable. Together, we can shape a future where Gozo thrives as a harmonious blend of tradition and progress, offering a warm welcome to all while cherishing its unique identity.
