Architecture & Design | 19 Central to this experience is the intricate lighting design, brought to life through a successful collaboration between Electrical Supplies & Services (ESS) - a leading Maltese supplier of lighting and electrical solutions, and local design firm DAAA Haus. DAAA Haus developed a captivating lighting plan, and ESS' expertise in high-end lighting solutions and bespoke approach was instrumental in providing the perfect fixtures. Together, they created a dynamic and immersive space, with layers of unique lighting elements that enhance the visual depth and warmth of this hotel area. Drawing inspiration from the raw beauty of the Mediterranean landscape, the space integrates natural elements like semi-artificial trees, warm light oak woods, and clay- finished decorative textures that echo regional motifs. The earthy colour palette, with soft accents of terracotta, gives the space a warm, grounding appeal that feels both timeless and connected to its coastal setting. The 'Juniper' lobby bar, set against a lush backdrop of greenery, features an array of thoughtfully arranged seating zones that accommodate various guest needs, whether for quick snacks, relaxed conversations, or a quiet drink. The lighting elements, chosen with precision, support this multi-functional space, introducing warmth and depth through each detail. Floating above the sofa area is a composition of Palma luminaires by Vibia, designed by Antoni Arola. These globe-shaped lights, seemingly suspended in mid-air, harmonise effortlessly with the abundant foliage, enhancing the organic aesthetic that permeates the space. To bring warmth and intimacy to guests' line of sight, Pois floor lamps by Karman and June floor lamps by Vibia were carefully placed among the greenery. Meanwhile, a selection of suspended luminaires from Vibia's Array collection delineates the lobby entrance, providing a gentle separation between the reception and lounge areas. Although these artistic fixtures reach heights of up to 110 cm, they retain a sense of airiness, casting a balanced, soft illumination that adds to the area's relaxed sophistication. The luminaries' warm glow, diffused through the linear red cords, perfectly complements the surrounding terracotta and clay textures. For the space to transition seamlessly from day to night, black accents were introduced to complement the lush greenery and terracotta tones, adding a subtle touch of elegance and adaptability. The reception desk is highlighted by two semi-circular arched luminaries from Estiluz's Volta collection, designed by Nahtrang Studio. These fixtures draw guests' attention directly to the reception, standing as a refined yet striking focal point. The new design for DoubleTree by Hilton Malta is a testament to the transformative power of light in interior design. By layering various textures and light sources, the hotel's communal spaces were transformed into immersive environments that encourage guests to relax and savour the serene Mediterranean atmosphere. Proud of this successful collaboration, ESS reaffirms its dedication to providing high-quality lighting solutions to Malta's hospitality sector, with a commitment honed by over two decades of expertise in the lighting industry. www.ess.com.mt ELECTRICAL SUPPLIES & SERVICES LTD.
