Architecture & Design | 25 A Milestone for Malta Quad Central embodies sustainable design, redefining urban living in Malta. The development integrates cutting-edge energy systems, water conservation technologies, and eco-friendly materials across its facilities, which include a fitness centre, childcare services, retail spaces, and medical clinics. This landmark project places Malta firmly on the map for green innovation, providing a premium lifestyle while significantly reducing its environmental footprint. Global Sustainability Expertise for a continued vision As part of the celebrations for Quad Central's LEED Platinum certification, Malta hosted the internationally acclaimed urban planner and sustainability expert, Dr Marina Matashova, in November. Dr Matashova's visit underscored the transformative potential of sustainable urban planning and provided valuable insights into aligning local practices with global standards. A highlight of her visit was her keynote lecture at Kamra tal-Periti, where Dr Matashova addressed Malta's architecture and planning community. Her talk explored the intersection of sustainability, urban design, and climate resilience, sparking critical conversations on how the country can embrace green building practices more broadly. Dr Matashova also engaged with students, architects, and industry leaders in workshops and discussions, sharing her expertise in LEED certification, socio- ecological urbanism, and integrative design. Reflecting on her time in Malta, she remarked: "Speaking at Kamra tal-Periti and meeting the visionaries behind Malta's first LEED Platinum-certified project have been highlights of my visit. I am inspired by Malta's drive to build a sustainable future and honoured to contribute to its journey." Dr Matashova's visit has laid the groundwork for continued collaboration between Malta and international sustainability leaders. Her insights and the example set by Quad Central demonstrate how forward-thinking investments can yield environmental, economic, and social dividends. By embracing sustainability at the heart of its development, Malta is charting a course for others to follow—a journey of innovation, responsibility, and hope for future generations.
