A
rchitecture 360 were engaged to transform a derelict
property into a memorable accommodation for families
travelling to the Maltese islands. The clients envisioned
to renovate a typical Maltese townhouse into a host family
home. The brief was to extend the premises in order to add
separate private units on top of the old house, which was to
be partly a common area and partly the clients' residence. The
project goal was clear: to renovate and extend the structure,
while preserving its cultural essence, creating an inviting and
authentic Maltese experience.
The property is located in the core of the historic city of
Bormla – a densely built area with narrow streets and a calm
atmosphere. The existing house is sandwiched between other
properties as part of a series of typical townhouses with a
beautiful palazzo on the left hand side and abutting another
