JANUARY 10 @ 07:00 - 14:30 The Voice of Silence – Art Exhibition by Mary Rose Saliba Banca Giuratale Pjazza Indipendenza, Victoria, Gozo, Malta A close relationship with the environ- ment and love for nature lead Mary Rose Saliba as the artist researcher to explore, study, examine and analyse the deep connection between nature and human presence and its manipu- lation. The exhibition aims to trigger the lam- entable divisions between opposing poles, pitting natures delicately poised and aesthetically pleasing harmony against the widespread devastation of primordial rural areas. Nostalgic moments of the past raise awareness about past and present en- vironmental deviations. Such frustra- tion and nostalgia encouraged the art- ist to use her brush strokes to convey a powerful philosophical, psychological, and spiritual message. Saliba consid- ers this complex duality a symbol of the human condition, placed within a cultural, historical, geological, and biological context. 'The Voice of Silence' exhibition is creating a link between nature and humanity. It is an open space for the teachings and wisdom that nature of- fers, reminding us of our place within the ecosystem and the importance of preserving it. The name is probably derived from that of an Arabic-Greek family that moved to Gozo from Sicily. Ta' Sannat is best known for the Ta' Cenc plateau on the edge of the village and its spectacular Ta' Cenc cliffs, the highest cliffs in Gozo. The plateau is typical Maltese garigue rich in flora and fuana. It is also the site of a number of prehistoric remains, including sparse remnants of L-Imramma Temple and three dolmens (made up of, a roughly shaped horizontal limestone slab supported on three sides by blocks of stone standing on end). The plateau overlooks the Hanżira valley, a natural gorge with steep rocky sides separating Ta' Sannat from the village of ix-Xewkija, of which there are excellent views.
