9 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 23 APRIL 2025 CULTURE Red & White concert bridges Maltese and Polish contemporary music ON April 16, the Mikiel Anton Vassalli College (MAVC) hosted Red & White (Czerwono–Biały) at St. Joseph Retreat in Rabat, a vibrant evening of contemporary classical music featuring Polish performers from the Maxime Orchestra and new works by Maltese and Polish composers. Conducted by Andrzej Man- dryka the works included debut performances by Maltese com- posers Jes Grixti, Edric Micallef, Matthias Azzopardi, and Reu- ben Pace, whose Gdybym miał skrzypce showcased a concerti- no for violin and string orchestra based on a Polish folk tune. Also featured were composi- tions by Polish composers Kinga Wójcik and Wojciech Laskowski, as well as a lush orchestration of Karol Szymanowski's Étude in B minor. "This concert reflects our com- mitment to cultural exchange and creative growth," said Vic- tor Galea, Head of the College. While performed entirely by Polish musicians, the event shone a spotlight on Malta's vi- brant contemporary composers, reaffirming music as a border- less, evolving art. Visiting Malta as part of an ongoing cultural collaboration, Poland's Maxime Orchestra is also preparing to take the stage for the premiere of TR- AB – The Rest is Dust, a new Maltese opera by Reuben Pace. This production is made possi- ble through the partnership with Mikiel Anton Vassalli College, Malta's National Further and Higher Education Institution for Visual and Performing Arts Ed- ucation. TRAB – The Rest is Dust will premiere on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th April at the St. Agatha Auditorium in Rabat. A limited number of free tickets are still available at www.ticket- line.com.mt, offering audiences the chance to witness the un- folding of a bold chapter in Mal- ta's contemporary music scene. MALTA'S funniest confessional comedy show is back! And this time it is bigger and better than ever! Naughty Malta is a show that is based and inspired by REAL, ANONYMOUS confessions. The concept behind the show is simple, the general public is en- couraged to send in their funni- est, most embarrassing sex con- fessions, and the best ones are turned into sketches. That means that you might be sitting in the audience and all of a sudden you might see your own confession being acted out on stage! But because it is anon- ymous, nobody will know…ex- cept you! Created, directed, and featur- ing the only Maltese comedian to turn professional on the UK circuit – Steve Hili, this is the third edition of Naughty Malta, with the first two iterations sell- ing out. And this year, the stellar cast includes Comedy Knights Pia Zammit and Naomi Said, Tik Tok star James Ryder, and thea- tre legend Toni Attard. This edition features complete- ly new confessions so even if you came to the first two shows you will witness a brand-new set of stories – possibly including your own! One of the most unforget- table confessions? A teenager hiding under his nanna's bed to give her a fright when she went to have siesta… only to hear an unexpected buzzing noise from above. You can guess the rest! Whether you're coming for the confessions, or to see if your own confession makes it to the stage, one thing is guaranteed – Naughty Malta 3 is an unmissa- ble night of comedy and chaos.
