maltatoday | SUNDAY • 27 APRIL 2025 5 ALMANAC Nature Notebook Micromobi Toolkit Join Friends of the Earth Malta in the Micromobility Movement! Traffic congestion, air pollution, and stressful commutes have become part of daily life in cities across Europe, but it does not have to be this way. A growing number of people are embracing micromobility, walking, cy- cling, and other small-scale transport solutions to build greener, calmer, and healthier urban environments. At the heart of this movement is the Micromobi project, helping com- munities rethink the way we move in our cities by promoting sustainable, people-friendly alternatives to car-centred transport. To support this shift, the project has launched the Micromobility Toolkit, a practical and easy-to-use resource designed to help individuals, local groups, and city planners take action. Wood Warbler WOOD warblers are tiny birds, thousands of which pass through Malta while on their spring (northbound) or autumn (southbound) migration, but especially in spring – they were particularly common these past days. They are active birds, keeping to the trees and flit- ting restlessly in the foliage in search of small insects. Due to their leafy habitat, colour and perhaps even shape, they belong to a group of similar-looking birds known as leaf warblers. The wood warbler (M. vjolin ħadrani) has a greenish back with lemon yellow breast and a white belly. A walk at Buskett – or indeed in any large garden – at this time of year and a careful look at any movement among the branches above should reward you with one or more of these hand- some birds going about their frantic business. Naturally, a pair of binoculars would come in very handy here.
