6 gozotoday | FRIDAY • 16 MAY 2025 CULTURE THE University Gozo Campus in collaboration with the Inter- national Organisation of Needle and Bobbin Lace (OIDFA) (Mal- ta) and the Koperattiva Għawdx- ija tal-Bizzilla u Artiġjanat, or- ganised the annual event "Gozo Lace Day". The event was held on Sunday 4 May 2025 at the University Gozo Campus and consisted of a number of exhi- bitions and demonstrations of Gozo lace and talks on matters related to lace-making. Present for the event were Prof. Philip von Brockdorff, Rector's Dele- gate for Gozo and Dr Consiglia Azzopardi. In his introductory speech, Prof. von Brockdorrf welcomed those present and gave a brief description of the courses being offered at the campus includ- ing those in lace-making. The courses related to lace-making are being offered by the Centre for Liberal Arts and Sciences of the University of Malta and it is planned that such courses con- tinue to be offered in the future. Consiglia Azzopardi gave an overview of the works and courses related to lace-making offered at the campus. She in- troduced the new lace pattern booklet for the year which is dedicated to Lace for Cushions. She also thanked the staff at the Gozo Campus for their assis- tance in the offering of courses and the organisation of similar events. Invited for the event was the renowned Gozitan artist Chev. Paolo Camilleri Cauchi. He de- livered an interesting lecture on the technique he uses for draw- ing lace on portrayed eclesias- tics and religious statues. Numerous lace makers and friends attended the event and visited the exhibitions of con- temporary lace master-pieces and projects produced by stu- dents from the Centre for Lib- eral Arts and Sciences. The big- gest attraction was the gathering of student and experienced lace makers from Koperattiva, to- gether sharing their experience in the making lace on the trajbu. Gozo lace day held at University Gozo Gozo Lace Day featured exhibitions, demonstrations, and talks on lace- making, with contributions from local artisans, students, and experts.
