THIS IS A PAID COLLABORATION From campus to campaign TRANSPORT Malta has launched a powerful initiative, giving voice to students while promoting an es- sential national message: safe and responsible mobility. Through a dy- namic collaboration with MCAST, this project bridges the gap between ed- ucation and the working world, plac- ing students at the forefront of a cam- paign that highlights what it means to move smart and stay safe. This is not just about road signs and enforcement. It is about nurturing a new generation of informed and cre- ative citizens who understand the val- ue of safe mobility, not as a rule, but as a way of life. By inviting students to lead the storytelling, Transport Malta is reaffirming its belief that connec- tivity and safety belong to everyone, especially the young people who are shaping tomorrow's transport sys- tems. Students from MCAST's creative arts programmes were given the oppor- tunity to take part in a live national campaign. Instead of submitting tra- ditional assignments, these students found themselves writing, scripting, filming and editing real public aware- ness videos. Their work covered im- portant safety issues like distracted walking, cycling without visibility gear, and mobile phone use while driving. Charlton Hugh Greengrass, one of the students involved, explained, "Filming the Malta transport advert was a great experience for me. I loved being part of such an amazing team and exploring the beautiful sights of Malta while on set. The creative en- ergy, the friendly vibe, it was all truly enjoyable and rewarding." This campaign shows the impor- tance of valuing creative work and giving students equal opportunities to learn in meaningful ways. Glenn Farrugia, another student, added, "The project was a fun endeavour and a very nice twist instead of usual assignments. It coupled schoolwork with actual industry work and was ed- ucational not only in terms of experi- ence but also in learning about traffic laws and ethics." The concept behind this initiative is simple yet powerful. Students speak- ing to students in their own language and style. By giving them a platform, the message becomes more authen- tic, more relatable, and more ef- fective. Young people are not only future commuters, but future design- ers, communicators, planners and cit- izens. Their voice matters. Transport Malta is proud to serve as a launchpad for future talent. Through projects like these, it be- comes clear that creative learning and real-life work experience can go hand in hand. Stephen Cassar, who worked on the campaign, shared, "Participating in the Transport Malta campaign pro- vided a unique opportunity to gain experience working with clients. We raised awareness about the need for passenger safety, especially for future generations." This sentiment was echoed by Noel Zarb, who said, "Working with Trans- port Malta provided valuable experi- ence in a professional setting as well as productive collaboration with col- leagues. The focus on bicycle safety was very interesting, allowing me to gain deeper insights into cycling reg- ulations." By encouraging young voices, the campaign sends a wider message to society: safe and sustainable mobility is everyone's responsibility. It starts with education, creativity, and equal access to opportunities. Malta's trans- port systems will continue evolving. That evolution must include the voic- es of our youth, the innovation of our educators, and the guidance of our institutions. maltatoday | SUNDAY • 25 MAY 2025 A national campaign on road safety shaped by tomorrow's generation Students from MCAST's creative arts programmes were given the opportunity to take part in a live national campaign.
