THE European Parliament's Commit- tee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN) convened its first-ever official meeting in Gozo at Il-Ħaġar Museum to discuss regional connectivity and sustainable tourism development. Led by TRAN First Vice-Chair Virginijus Sinkevičius of Lithuania, the delegation is visiting Malta and Gozo to assess local transport and tourism challenges, with a particular focus on Gozo's "double insularity"—the island's compounded geographic and logistical isolation. During their visit, the committee met with representatives from the Gozo Regional Development Authority and the Gozo Tourism Asso- ciation. Discussions centred on address- ing uneven tourism flows and mitigating seasonal fluctuations, issues considered critical to achieving sustainable growth in the region.
