Among these students, there were around 800 students who came from Gozo. The rest were from different schools from every corner of Malta includ- ing state, Church and private schools. The students had a chance to visit all the Ministerial stands, as well as to follow various activities being held at the Ta' Qali picnic area. Many of the children ex- pressed the wish that when they grow up, they will join the public administration and seek a career that gives them satisfaction. Apart from tours specialised in Expo, students were also giv- en free merchandise. They will be urging their parents to at- tend again with them during the weekend. Local stakeholders described the visit as a key opportunity to highlight Gozo's unique needs and advocate for targeted EU support to overcome structural chal- lenges affecting tourism and infrastruc- ture. Labour Party calls for unity, condemns opposition's alleged misinformation In response to the visit, the Labour Par- ty emphasized the importance of political consensus, noting that representatives from both the Government and Opposi- tion held a joint meeting with the delega- tion to discuss national reforms in trans- port and tourism. The party criticized the Opposition for allegedly misrepresenting the outcomes of the meeting. "It is very regrettable that at such meet- ings, although MPs from both sides agreed on almost all points, the Opposition issued a false version of what happened, includ- ing unfounded allegations aimed at dam- aging Malta's reputation within European institutions," the Labour Party stated. It called for cooperation free from parti- san politics to effectively address national challenges. PN urges greater EU funding and policy adaptation for island states The Nationalist Party (PN) stressed the urgent need for significant EU funding to support transport and tourism initi- atives, particularly the development of sustainable infrastructure tailored to Mal- ta's unique position as a peripheral island state. Shadow Minister for Transport Mark Anthony Sammut outlined the PN's vision to enhance the quality of Malta's tourism while promoting more sustaina- ble tourism practices to reduce pressure on local resources. While acknowledging the benefits of EU funds that facilitated Malta's electricity interconnectors, the PN expressed con- cern over lost opportunities, citing €34 million in EU funding that was not used to convert 100 buses to electric vehicles. The party also called for better adapta- tion of EU policies, such as the European Green Deal, to better suit island econo- mies, warning that failure to do so could negatively impact peripheral regions like Malta. The Government delegation was repre- sented by Ministers Chris Bonett, Miriam Dalli, Clint Camilleri, and Deputy Min- ister Alex Muscat. The Nationalist Party delegation included Shadow Ministers Mark Anthony Sammut, Ivan Castillo, Ry- an Callus, and Alex Borg. European Parliament Committee holds first official meeting in Gozo The European Parliament's Committee on Transport and Tourism convened in Gozo for the first time to discuss regional connectivity and sustainable tourism
