Shop now at www.wine.mt Located on the Birżebbuġa seafront, the property in question was converted into a party club back in the 1980s A Constitutional Court on Mon- day found the Labour Party guilty of taking over a private property and breaching the fundamental human rights of its owner. Located on the Birżebbuġa sea- front, the property was convert- ed into a party club back in the 1980s. The piece of land involved was previously a hotel. Following this, the property was used as a telephone exchange and later as a government lodging. Placed under a requisition order in August 1979, the owners had been summoned by former Lands Minister Joe Brincat and were presented with an "all-or-nothing deal." Allegedly, the minister told the owners that leasing the property to the Labour Party would bene- fit them since the property would remain under requisition anyway. Thus, the appellants complied at first. In a Facebook post on Tues- day, he said he believes the Nationalist Party needs a gen- erational change and a winning mentality. "I entered politics to serve, not to be served. And that is what I will continue to do throughout the rest of my political journey. I am taking this step with a sense of duty, responsibility, and humility," he said. Borg is one of the clear favourites for party lead- er. A MaltaToday survey published last Sunday put him in pole po- sition, with 23.2% of party members preferring him as leader. He enjoys strong sup- port among younger and middle-aged members as well as among those with higher ed- ucation. On Mon- day, the PN's former leader Adrian Delia said he will be contesting the election. This will be his third time running for the post, having won the leadership election in 2017 in a run-off with Chris Said and then losing to Bernard Grech in 2020.
