THE Gozitan contingent set to rep- resent the island at the 2025 Island Games in Orkney this July has been officially unveiled. Team Gozo, comprising of 51 ath- letes, will compete in six disciplines: athletics, cycling, golf, swimming, tri- athlon, and football. The games will take place from 12 to 18 July in Ork- ney, Scotland. This year marks an expansion of Gozo's participation, with the inclu- sion of a women's football team for the first time, as well as a debut in the golf category. The Ministry for Gozo described this development as a re- flection of the country's ambition, de- termination, and inclusive vision for sport. If elected, Borg would be the first Gozitan to lead the Nationalist Party. In a Facebook post, Borg said the party needs a generational shift and a stronger drive to win. "I entered pol- itics to serve, not to be served. That's what I will continue doing throughout my political journey. I'm taking this step with a sense of duty, responsibility, and humility," he wrote. Borg is widely seen as one of the frontrunners. A MaltaToday survey published last Sunday placed him in the lead, with 23.2% of party members supporting him as the next leader. He enjoys strong backing from younger and middle-aged members, particularly those with higher education. Alex Borg (Photo: Facebook) Team Gozo, comprises of 51 athletes (Photo: MGP)
