Modern art on stamps: New
philatelic display at Il-Hagar
IN parallel with the exception-
al retrospective of Carmelo
Mangion artworks at Il-Ħaġar,
the Gozo Philatelic Society has
changed the display in its show-
case on level -1 at the museum.
This now holds an assortment
of "modern" or contemporary
paintings featured on stamps
issued by various countries,
including Malta and Cuba, to
mention two completely differ-
ent ones.
They can be viewed till the be-
ginning of September, when it
is planned to offer others. This
cultural centre on Victoria's
Pjazza San Ġorġ opens from
9am to 5pm seven days a week
– without any entrance fee.
About Il-Hagar
Heart of Gozo Museum and
Cultural Centre is located at
the heart of Victoria (Rabat),
the main town of the island of
Gozo. It strives to present the
visitor with an authentic ex-
perience of the Gozitan herit-
age and Christian culture that
form this island community.
Il-Ħaġar recounts the history
of this island through its peo-
ple: their beliefs, their abilities
and their products. This Mu-
seum and Cultural Centre was
created, and is run by Fondazz-
joni Belt Victoria, an enrolled
voluntary organisation created
for this aim, among others, in
1998.
