A major retail development, dubbed as the Malta Shopping Village, is proposed for the El- bros Construction Yard site in Kirkop, near Malta Internation- al Airport. Although the site is outside the development zone (ODZ), it lies within a designated Area of Containment, where limited commercial and industrial de- velopment is allowed. The site lies alongside the airport runway and is across the road from the STMicroe- lectronics industrial complex. The planning application was put forward by Elbros Concrete Ltd, which owns the land, but the project descrip- tion statement presented to the environment authority was made by Qormi Construction Ltd, a company co-owned by Easysell Properties Ltd and the Tumas Group. The project foresees the con- struction of a mixed-use com- mercial complex that includes an outlet village with a super- market and three restaurants, a 123-room hotel, office space, a medical centre, and a sports centre. Frustration mounts in Marsaxlokk over works during summer break SEVERAL Marsaxlokk residents have reported ongoing dem- olition works at the site of the Hunters Tower restaurant, set to be replaced by a five-storey hotel to MaltaToday. The works are taking place in Xatt is-Sajjieda and Triq Wilga, which are included in a list of tourist areas issued by the Mal- ta Tourism Authority (MTA), where demolition and excava- tion works are prohibited be- tween 15 June and 30 September 2025.
