MALTESE athlete Neil Agius is undergoing intensive training at the National Pool in Tal-Qroqq in preparation for The Gozo 7, a physically demanding open-wa- ter challenge set to begin on Au- gust 31. The challenge will see Agius swim 42 kilometers per day for seven consecutive days around the island of Gozo—totaling nearly 300 kilometers and requir- ing up to 15 hours of swimming each day. His training focuses heavily on stamina, breath con- trol, and adapting to the unpre- dictable conditions of the open sea. As part of the lead-up to the event, Prime Minister Robert Ab- ela visited Agius during one of his training sessions to offer support and discuss the broader signifi- cance of the initiative. The two spoke about the rigorous prepa- rations and the message behind the challenge: promoting physi- cal activity, mental resilience, and a healthier lifestyle. Abela commended Agius's ded- ication and highlighted the im- portance of nutrition in achieving optimal health. He stressed that proper eating habits are funda- mental to personal development, noting that they contribute to better rest, improved strength, and sustained focus throughout the day. Agius said he hopes The Gozo 7 will not only test his own limits but also inspire the public to take a greater interest in their physi- cal and mental well-being, while drawing attention to Gozo's nat- ural environment.
