Representatives from ERA and Nature Trust Malta opened the nest to assess its condition and determine how many hatchlings made it to the sea. Officials expressed their gratitude to all volunteers and members of the public who contributed to the monitoring and protection of the nest. Six turtle nests have been discovered on Maltese shores this summer. Last year, a record eight turtle nests were reported. THE Minister for Gozo and Planning, Clint Camilleri, has announced that Triq Patri Ġiaċintu Camenzuli, which will be part of the bypass to Triq Marsalforn, is opening to the public after extensive work was carried out over the past few weeks. This major infrastructure project in Gozo will ensure that access to and from the popular Marsalforn bay not only improves, but also that traffic volume through the center of Victoria is reduced. "In the past two days, over 3,000 square meters of tarmac were laid at this site so that, as of today, anyone heading to Marsalforn can begin using this road," Camilleri said. In addition to the tarmacking work, the road was complete- ly rebuilt, its foundation rein- forced, and all utility services re-installed, including a cul- vert for services. A rainwater culvert system was also constructed so that rainwater is collected and eventually directed to Wied tal-Kapuċċini, a valley sur- rounded by agricultural land. This project is being carried out with the aim of keeping the road's environment—as- sociated with this part of the island—as intact as possible. This follows various discus- sions with entities and stake- holders, including environ- mental organizations. Work on this project started at the end of 2024, following criticism from environmental NGOs, particularly due to the impact on trees, agricultural land, and local ecosystems in the area. Revisions to the plans were made following consultations with Din l-Art Ħelwa (DLĦ) and the Gozo Cycling Club to mitigate environmental im- pacts.
