LAWYER Jason Azzopardi has been fined €300 for contempt of court after he was found to have repeatedly ignored and disobeyed a court order prohibiting him from making public comments about Yor- gen Fenech or his upcoming trial. The order came about following two previous inci- dents in May 2025, in which Azzopardi was found to have made inappropriate comments implying Fenech's guilt. He was warned and ordered to re- frain from any further public commentary that could preju- dice the administration of jus- tice or Fenech's presumption of innocence. Despite these warnings, a post uploaded by Azzopardi on 21 June sparked fresh con- troversy. The post said something on the lines of: "There are those who think that before the jury they can cleanse themselves and make people forget the fact that they ordered a kill- ing. The Massive Ordnance Penetrator of facts, truth, and recordings will crush and bury you." He pointed out that the Public Accounts Com- mittee (PAC), on which he sits, had nothing to do with the decision. "It seems there is a mis- understanding. The Pub- lic Accounts Committee (PAC) had nothing to do with the request for a new evaluation for the Forti- na exemption. In fact, when the opposition members on the PAC request- ed that this report be discussed, the Government members vot- ed against us," he said.
