GOZO has become the first place in Europe to install so- lar flowers, innovative solar energy systems that track the movement of the sun, at the Gozo Multi-Modal Hub in Ta' Xħajma. The €850,000 project, launched by Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri and Parlia- mentary Secretary for Public Works Omar Farrugia, in- cludes the installation of 15 solar flower units. The initia- tive forms part of the govern- ment's ongoing investment in sustainable transport and clean energy infrastructure. Inspired by the natural mo- tion of sunflowers, each solar flower automatically opens at sunrise, follows the sun throughout the day, and clos- es at night. According to the government, this smart design allows each unit to generate up to 40% more energy than traditional solar panels, im- proving both efficiency and output. Gozo Minister Camilleri said the project marks anoth- er step toward an environ- mentally sustainable future for Gozo and aligns with the island's Gozo as an Island of Villages strategy and the Gozo Vision 2050.
