8 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 17 DECEMBER 2025 CULTURE Christmas Bakes Marathon 2025 to support transitional residences for youth leaving care XJENZA Malta and the Tangent Group announced the launch of the joint fundraising initiative, the 'Christmas Bakes Marathon 2025', to benefit Fondazzjoni Sebħ in its critical mission to empower young people transi- tioning out of residential care. The two-day marathon event, spearheaded by the Tangent Group's President, Marthese Mi- callef, will be held at the prestig- ious Villa Bighi today December 13th and tomorrow the 14th of December. Contributions raised will directly support the develop- ment of vital semi- independent Transitional Residences by Fon- dazzjoni Sebħ. For many young people, alter- native care has been their entire childhood. As they approach adulthood, they deserve stability, dignity, and a strong foundation for their future. Fondazzjoni Sebħ is developing these semi-independent resi- dences to provide secure accom- modation, continuous support, and guidance from professional mentors. These residences will offer young adults the opportunity to continue their education whilst building essential life skills to enter the workforce. Hence, they remove the immediate hurdles of high rent, utility bills, and the risk of homelessness that these youths often face. Marthese Micallef, President of Tangent Group, stated, "We believe every young person de- serves the opportunity to thrive as they step into independence. The Christmas Bakes Marathon is a fun, community-focused way to provide very real, tangible support—a roof, a mentor, and a chance for a stable beginning— to these deserving youths. We are proud to stand with Xjenza Malta to make this project a re- ality." From her end, Kerry Hermit- age, Senior Manager of Fami- ly Services within Fondazzjoni Sebħ, said that with this type of support we are in a position to help young people leaving resi- dential care to have a better life and proper future." Silvio Scerri, CEO of Xjen- za Malta, added that, "Xjenza Malta is proud to support Fon- dazzjoni Sebħ in strengthening young people preparing to leave residential care. Partnering with Tangent Group on this mara- thon ensures these youths have every chance to enter adulthood with encouragement and a hope- ful future. The investment we make today in stable housing and mentorship will yield positive re- turns for our entire community tomorrow." The 'Christmas Bakes Mara- thon 2025' invites the public and corporate entities to contribute to the success of this life-chang- ing project. Through this joint effort, Xjenza Malta and the Tangent Group aim to ensure that these young adults can focus on building their lives without the immediate fear of insecurity. These residences will offer young adults the opportunity to continue their education whilst building essential life skills to enter the workforce
