A growing dispute between two Gozitan contractors led to a third shooting incident on 15 December, MaltaToday has learnt, in a case characterised by omertà. The latest incident happened at night outside the Rabat house of a leading contractor, who was tar- geted while in his vehicle. No one was injured and the victim did not file a police report in an attempt to avoid scrutiny by law enforcement agencies. The same person had found a bullet hole in his car last year, sources in Gozo told MaltaToday. That incident was kept hush and not reported to the police as well. Meanwhile, on 15 August 2025, an unknown person is understood to have shot at a fork lifter while being driven on a public street in Rabat, Gozo, by an employee of the same contractor. This incident was reported to the police but sources close to the investigation told Mal- taToday progress has been ham- pered by witnesses, who claim to have seen or heard nothing. Meanwhile, a police spokesper- son confirmed with MaltaToday the police received no reports of the alleged December shooting in- cident. THE Nationalist Party's debt stood at €11.7 million in 2024, carrying a whop- ping annual interest bill of €396,000 and yet, the par- ty saw income from mem- bership increase. On the other side of the block, the Labour Party's debt stood at €7.2 million with an annual charge of €160,000 with a backdrop of falling membership in- come. Despite its bigger debt problem, on average, wag- es paid at Dar Ċentrali are better than at Mile End. In 2024, the PL racked up an exceptional defi- cit owing to €1.7 million spent on the local coun- cil and European election campaigns. By contrast, the PN's election spend only totted up to around €266,000, possibly a re- flection of financial con- straints rather than fru- gality. Both parties are proper- ty-rich. The PL has €13.3 million worth of proper- ty, plant and equipment, while the PN has €14.4 million.
