The animal welfare organisa- tion said it expects to have re- homed around 225 animals by year's end, the highest annual total in its history. The fig- ure includes approximately 65 dogs and 160 cats. SPCA Gozo officials high- lighted the rehoming of large- breed dogs as a particularly significant achievement, not- ing that such animals often face greater challenges in find- ing permanent homes due to space, cost, and handling re- quirements. The projected record reflects sustained adoption efforts, in- creased public awareness, and continued community support for animal welfare on the is- land. Since its establishment nearly five decades ago, SPCA Gozo has played a central role in rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming abandoned and ne- glected animals. If confirmed, the 2025 figures would represent a landmark year for the organisation and underscore growing engage- ment with animal adoption in Gozo.
