A public tender has been issued
for a drone service to enable the
rapid transfer of pharmaceuti-
cal and biological materials be-
tween Mater Dei Hospital and
Gozo General Hospital.
During the announcement,
earlier this week, Health Minis-
ter Jo Etienne Abela said that in
recent months, the Office of the
Chief Medical Officer, together
with Gozo General Hospital,
worked to structure the tender.
"The drone service is expect-
ed to benefit dozens of Gozitan
patients in Gozo itself and re-
duce unnecessary travel for
them and their families," Abela
said.
Through this mode of trans-
port, 11 types of monoclonal
antibody medicines are expect-
ed to be transferred regularly,
safely, and swiftly. This will
allow more patients to receive
the treatment they need in an
expanded section of the Day
Care Unit at Gozo General
Hospital.
"This project is linked to an
infrastructure extension that is
currently underway to enable
the unit to accommodate fif-
teen patients instead of six."
