7 gozotoday | FRIDAY • 13 FEBRUARY 2026 NEWS Gozo and Comino attract majority of Malta's tourists in 2025 - NSO GOZO and Comino received over half of all tourists visiting Malta in 2025, according to fig- ures by the National Statics Of- fice (NSO). According to the figure, 2,305,968 visitors, or 57.3 per cent of total inbound tourists, spent at least part of their trip in Gozo and Comino between January and December 2025. During the year, Malta wel- comed 4,022,310 inbound tour- ists, marking a 12.9 per cent in- crease over 2024. Total nights spent by tourists rose by 11.0 per cent, reaching 25.4 million nights, with the largest share of stays occurring in rented accommodation es- tablishments. Tourist expenditure also grew significantly. Inbound visitors spent an estimated €3.9 billion across the islands, an 18.6 per cent increase compared to the previous year. Average spend- ing per visitor rose to €971, up from €924 in 2024. Monthly data for December 2025 showed that 208,204 tour- ists visited Malta for holiday purposes, while 11,940 came for business, with British, Italian, and Polish residents making up nearly half (49 per cent) of total inbound arrivals. Visitors aged 45 to 64 account- ed for the largest share (36.3 per cent), followed closely by those aged 25 to 44 (36.2 per cent). Total nights spent in Decem- ber reached 1.4 million, up 13.6 per cent from the same month in 2024. Most nights were spent in rented accommodation (85.4 per cent), with the aver- age length of stay at 6.1 nights. Tourist expenditure for Decem- ber alone amounted to €162.9 million, an increase of 15.8 per cent, with average expenditure per night estimated at €117.7. Gozo and Comino continue to emerge as key destinations within Malta's tourism land- scape, drawing both same-day and overnight visitors and con- tributing substantially to the islands' economic recovery and growth in the post-pandemic period.
