6 COMMERCIAL maltatoday | SUNDAY • 15 MARCH 2026 The standards that define Mekanika's work IN the building services and solutions industry, there's a big difference between saying you do things properly and actually proving it. Mekanika has always believed that if you are going to be responsible for the heart and soul of someone's building, you need to show your work. Achieving certification to in- ternationally recognised ISO standards, reflects our structured processes, rigorous quality con- trol, and continuous improve- ment culture. For our clients, this means confidence in consistent delivery, regulatory compliance, risk management, and dependable service performance on every pro- ject. Our ISO and LPCB accredi- tation reinforce our dedication to professionalism, accountability, and delivering building services solutions that meet — and exceed — expectations. Let's be honest. Anyone can call themselves an expert. But when you're dealing with critical build- ing systems - the HVAC, Lifts, Fire Systems, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure that keeps hospitals running, offices comfortable, and factories productive - talk isn't enough. These international cer- tifications mean that independent experts have looked at our safety steps, our environmental impact, and our quality of work, and con- firmed that we are meeting the highest standards. Malta has genuine expertise and skilled professionals in building services. But to truly stand out in the competition, international certification makes the difference. These standards set a benchmark that goes beyond what any com- pany can just say about itself. Quality you can count on (ISO 9001) ISO 9001 is about consistency. Whether we're installing HVAC systems in a hotel or maintain- ing fire protection equipment in a commercial complex, every project follows the same rigorous quality standards. For our clients, this translates to fewer surprises, better documentation, and sys- tems that work as promised. For us, it means continuous improve- ment. Looking after the environment (ISO 14001) There is no getting around the fact that construction and build- ing services have an environmen- tal footprint. But ISO 14001 cer- tification means we are actively managing and reducing our im- pact. From how we handle waste materials on site to the energy efficiency of the systems we sup- ply, install and maintain, environ- mental responsibility is built into our daily operations. In practical terms, this might mean select- ing refrigerants with lower global warming potential, optimising system designs to reduce energy consumption, or ensuring proper disposal of materials during erec- tion and maintenance. Keeping our people safe (ISO 45001) This one is personal. ISO 45001 is about making sure every mem- ber of our team goes home safe- ly at the end of the day. Building sites, electrical exposure and mechanical rooms aren't risk-free environ- ments. There is heavy equipment, electrical systems, working at heights, confined spac- es - the list goes on. This certification means we have implemented health and safety management systems that iden- tify hazards, assess risks, and put controls in place before anyone enters an area or picks up a tool. Regular training, proper equip- ment, clear procedures, and the authority for any team member to stop work if something doesn't look right are all documented, au- dited practices, not just good in- tentions. Expertise in fire risk mitigation and safety (LPCB) When it comes to fire detection and safety, we are safeguarding not just property but more im- p o r t a n t people's lives. LPCB certification is a top-notch standard for fire protection. The LPCB (Loss Prevention Certifi- cation Board) confirms that our engineers have the training and skills to Design, supply, Install, commission and maintain these critical systems to such high standards. "These certifications changed how we work. They've made us more efficient and more account- able. Our clients see the differ- ence, but our team lives it every day in the way we handle our jobs." In an industry where cutting corners can have se- rious consequences, these standards mat- ter. We are proud to hold these certifica- tions, but more than that, we are proud of what they represent: a commitment to doing things properly, consistently, and safely. Because when you are trusted with the heart and soul of a building, anything less isn't good enough, it's not us! LIDL Malta renews support for Dar Merħba Bik with €10,000 donation TO mark International Wom- en's Day, Lidl Malta, the island's leading retail supermarket chain, donated €10,000 to The Good Shephed Sisters - Dar Merħba Bik. This contribution represent- ed a renewal of the company's support for the NGO, reinforc- ing a long-standing commitment to the protection and empow- erment of women and children fleeing domestic violence. Building on last year's com- mitment, which saw the initia- tion of a major renovation of the shelter's playroom, this year's contribution is directed toward Dar Merħba Bik's core opera- tional costs and essential servic- es. While work on the new chil- dren's space continues, the NGO is simultaneously facing an un- precedented rise in the demand for safe housing and professional support. This latest €10,000 do- nation by Lidl Malta aims to ad- dress these immediate resource challenges and ensure that their vital work providing a lifeline to those in crisis can continue with- out interruption. "Our partnership with Dar Merħba Bik has shown us the harsh reality of the struggles many women and children face in our community," said Owen Micallef, Lidl Malta Director. "While we are proud to provide this financial support, we also recognize that the needs of the NGO are vast. We are standing with them not just as donors, but as advocates." The Foundation is inspired by the motto "One person is worth more than the whole world", which is taken from St. Mary Eu- phrasia, Foundress of the Good Shepherd Sisters. This is the rea- son behind the services given at Dar Merħba Bik and Dar Santa Bakhita: to help the women and their children, victims of Do- mestic Violence, who come to the shelters, to feel safe and em- powered to move forward in life in dignity, as beloved children of God. In celebration of International Women's Day, Lidl Malta invites the community to acknowledge the resilience and strength of women and families who have faced adversity. As socially re- sponsible leaders in the local community, the company en- courages other businesses and the general public to support or- ganisations like Dar Merħba Bik, urging them to stand not just as donors, but as advocates for a saf- er and more compassionate soci- ety for all.
