Sacred icon exhibition opens in
Sliema for Holy Week reflection
Teatru Salesjan
transforms
performance
space into a silent,
contemplative
environment for
four-day event
AN exhibition of sacred iconog-
raphy aimed at fostering reflec-
tion during Holy Week opens in
Sliema on Tuesday, with organ-
isers converting a theatre space
into a setting for quiet contem-
plation.
The event, A Painted Word,
is being held at Teatru Salesjan
from March 31 to April 3, with
the venue's main theatre re-
configured to prioritise silence
and stillness over its usual pro-
gramme of performances.
Organisers said the exhibition
presents a collection of sacred
icons arranged to encourage
visitors to pause and reflect,
emphasising an atmosphere
free from noise and distraction.
The initiative coincides with
Holy Week and forms part of
broader efforts by the theatre
to engage audiences through
cultural and community-fo-
cused programming beyond
traditional stage productions.
Teatru Salesjan, a long-es-
tablished venue in Sliema, reg-
ularly hosts a range of artistic
events, including exhibitions
and live performances, and
has increasingly incorporat-
ed reflective and communi-
ty-oriented experiences into its
schedule.
The exhibition is open to
the public over the four-day
period, with visitors invited
to move through the space at
their own pace.
