Author Peter Portelli to discuss historical fiction
and debut novel The Order at Gozo Public Library
MALTESE author Peter Portelli
will give a public talk on his writ-
ing and debut novel, The Order,
at the Gozo Central Public Li-
brary on Wednesday, 27 May
2026, from 10.30am to 11.30 am
Portelli will discuss his ap-
proach to historical fiction and
short stories, highlighting the
balance between artistic ex-
pression and disciplined craft
in his work. He will explain
why he chose historical fiction
as his primary genre and how
he develops narrative through
plot and character. His debut
novel, set during the Great
Siege, received critical acclaim
following its release in 2023.
The author will also reflect on
the challenges and opportuni-
ties of being published in Malta
and internationally and share
plans to expand the reach of
The Order, including potential
prequels, sequels, and other
forthcoming writing projects.
