ON-SITE preparation of chemotherapy at Gozo General Hospital will only become pos- sible once the hospital's new pharmacy project is complet- ed, Health Minister Jo Etienne said on Tuesday. The minister made the announcement in response to a parliamentary question by Nationalist MP Ian Vassallo. The health minister told Par- liament that the hospital will be equipped to prepare paren- teral chemotherapy once the planned pharmacy upgrade is finished. He said the service cannot begin locally before the project is completed. In the meantime, the ministry has issued a tender for drone services intended to reduce the burden on Gozo patients who require certain chemotherapy treatments. The initiative is aimed at improving logistics while patients continue to ac- cess treatment through ex- isting arrangements until the hospital facility is ready. The update confirms that on- site chemotherapy preparation in Gozo remains pending com- pletion of infrastructure works, with no fixed operational date given beyond the current up- grade timeline.
