2 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 3 MAY 2026 CULTURE Fiordaliso at Pjazza Teatru Rjal for Notte Italiana 2026 FOLLOWING on from past suc‑ cesses, Pjazza Teatru Rjal is set to once again transform into an open‑air celebration of Italian music as Notte Italiana returns for its much‑anticipated 2026 edition on 6 and 7 August. This year's concerts promise two un‑ forgettable summer evenings featuring the internationally ac‑ claimed Italian singer Fiordaliso together with the Malta Concert Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Joe Brown. Renowned for her powerful voice and unmistakable stage presence, Fiordaliso is one of It‑ aly's most enduring and beloved pop artists. She rose to promi‑ nence in the early 80's and be‑ came a household name through her appearances at the prestig‑ ious Sanremo Music Festival, most notably with the iconic hit "Non voglio mica la luna", which remains a classic of Italian popu‑ lar music. Over a career spanning more than four decades, Fiordali‑ so has released numerous albums, continually reinventing herself while remaining true to the emo‑ tional intensity and melodic rich‑ ness that define Italian pop music. At Pjazza Teatru Rjal, Fiord‑ aliso will join forces with the Malta Concert Orchestra for a programme that blends timeless Italian hits with rich orchestral arrangements, set against the unique backdrop of Valletta's open‑air theatre. A much sought after annual appointment, Notte Italiana has become a highlight in Malta's cultural calendar, both for lifelong fans of Italian music as well as for those simply looking for a memorable summer night in Valletta. Self-taught artist Donald Peter Dalli launches debut solo exhibition A new solo exhibition by Maltese artist Donald Peter Dalli is set to open at The Bizzilla Art Space in Floriana, showcasing a body of abstract work developed over 15 years of experimentation in paint‑pouring and mixed media techniques. Titled The Abstract Dialogue, the exhibition presents a collec‑ tion of contemporary abstract pieces that explore emotional states through layered compo‑ sitions of lines, dots, and fluid forms. Dalli, a self‑taught artist, be‑ gan his practice using household oil‑based paints before gradually evolving his technique into more complex mixed‑media abstrac‑ tions. His work is influenced by expressive and gestural styles as‑ sociated with modern abstract art. The exhibition title refers to the concept of dialogue through interpretation and disagree‑ ment, positioning the artworks as open‑ended visual statements rather than fixed narratives. Speaking about the collection, Dalli said, "It is a matter of shape, color, and composition. My col‑ lection challenges the expecta‑ tions of everyday life. It makes you stop to gaze, admire, or even crit‑ icize. Whether you love it or hate it, the goal is to make you feel." He added that the work is in‑ tended as a form of personal ex‑ pression and creative renewal, describing it as "a process of emo‑ tional and artistic release." The Abstract Dialogue is de‑ signed as an interactive viewing experience aimed at encouraging public engagement with abstract art in an intimate gallery setting. The exhibition marks Dalli's first solo presentation. The Abstract Dialogue will run from 7 to 28 May at The Bizzilla Art Space in Floriana. Opening hours are from 9am to 4pm.
