Public talk and book launch this Saturday at Il-Hagar

Carmel Cassar will delve into
Malta's
role in the dramatic religious
and political conflicts of the early
modern Mediterranean. Draw-
ing on rich archival sources from
Malta and across Europe, Pro-
fessor Cassar will explore how
the Spanish- Ottoman struggle
shaped Maltese society and the
rule of the Order of St John,
while situating the island within
the wider currents of Mediter-
ranean geopolitics. The threat
posed by the conflict culminated
in 1565 and re-emerged during
the Ottoman incursion of 1614.
Professor Cassar has just pub-
lished his research on this topic
and copies will be available dur-
ing the talk. This event is being
held in collaboration with Kite
Group.
