Photography exhibition in Sliema to raise funds for Sudanese children in Cairo A photography exhibition fea- turing images from Sudan and Egypt will open in Sliema on Friday as part of a fundraiser supporting displaced Sudanese children living in Cairo. Frames of Hope, an exhibi- tion by photographer Diana Iskander, will run from 29 to 31 May at Christine X Art Gallery. The exhibition is being organ- ised in collaboration with Ro- taract Club Malta and will raise funds for Tree House Nursery in Cairo. The exhibition will feature documentary-style photographs taken by Iskander over more than a decade of travel in Sudan and Egypt. Organisers said the images focus on everyday life, street scenes and portraits built through long-term relationships with local communities. The opening night on, 29 May, will include a live auction of three large-format photographs personally selected by the pho- tographer. Other framed works will also be available for pur- chase during the exhibition, with proceeds going directly to the Cairo-based nursery through Rotaract Club Malta. Tree House Nursery was founded in 2023 and supports Sudanese children displaced by conflict. According to organis- ers, the nursery currently serves around 30 children aged be- tween six months and five years old and operates five classrooms staffed by eight teachers. Speaking ahead of the exhibi- tion, Iskander said the photo- graphs had "never found their public voice until now". Iskander, who was born and raised in Hungary and has Egyptian roots, has previously received recognition from the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for her photography work in Sudan. She currently works as a professional photographer and entrepreneur and also serves as vice president of Rotaract Club Malta. The exhibition opens at 7pm on 29 May. Admission is free. Diana Iskander
