4 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 31 MAY 2026 NEWS xxx ELECTION 2026 Arnold Cassola: 'Vote according to your conscience' MOMENTUM chairperson Arnold Cassola cast his vote in Pembroke on Saturday, calling on the public to vote according to their conscience. Speaking to reporters outside the Pembroke primary school where he had just voted, Cassola urged voters to "vote according to your conscience, for the good of the country". He was accompanied by Mo- mentum Secretary-general Mark Camilleri Gambin, who was also a candidate in this elec- tion. Cassola has been one of the more prominent voices outside the two main parties during this electoral campaign, with Mo- mentum positioning itself as an alternative for voters dissatisfied with both the Labour Party and the Nationalist Party. While being a veteran of Mal- tese politics, having contest- ed every general election since 1992, the 2026 general election was Cassola's first as leader of Momentum. He founded the party along with other activists in January last year as a centrist movement. Momentum fielded candidates in all electoral districts. Cassola contested the 9 and 10 districts. Gauci was accompanied to the polling station by ADPD candidate Luke Caruana. She voted at 12pm at the Ma- ria Regina College Primary School in Qawra. "Participate in the demo- cratic process and make your voice heard," Gauci told re- porters present outside the polling station in her home- town. Gauci contested on the 12 and 6 districts and this is the first general election in which she is leading ADPD. In its previous incarnation as Alternattiva Demokratika, the party contested every general election since 1992. In 2020, AD merged with the Demo- cratic Party to form ADPD. The new formation contest- ed its first general election in 2022. Gauci was elected ADPD leader in 2023 with her first electoral appointment being the European and local elec- tions of 2024.
